Join the Choir
Would you like the thrill of singing with a mixed voice choir that has a great choral tradition going back over 100 years?
If you are thinking of joining a choir in Oxford, then singing with the Oxford Bach Choir is a wonderfully rewarding experience. As a singing member you will have the chance to rehearse and perform with one of the most respected amateur choirs in the UK.
You will meet like-minded people who share your interest in music and have an opportunity to experience singing with professional conductors, orchestras and soloists.
After a long break in rehearsals enforced on us by Covid-19, we are now pleased to announce that the OBC is back in action!
Whilst our planned concerts and events for the autumn and spring season are on hold, we will still be rehearsing and putting on performances, where these are possible under government guidelines. Our summer concert – the Duruflé Requiem – is currently still in the programme for the season.
Rehearsals will be held in small groups with social distancing measures and will begin on Mon 28 September at the Wesley Memorial Church, New Inn Hall Street, Oxford OX1 2DH. Further details will become available during September.
Auditions are taken by Benjamin Nicholas, the Choir’s Music Director and are very informal. They last no more than ten minutes and consist of singing a short, prepared piece of your own choice, some scales or arpeggios, and some sight-reading from a vocal score.
We are looking for singers with good vocal skills, and also for those with the potential to develop and improve their abilities. If you love singing, why not give it a go? The Membership Secretary, Pia Key, will be very pleased to hear from prospective members wanting to sign up for an audition or who have other queries about membership or the auditioning process.
A flexible subscription fee has been implemented to deal with any changing circumstances related to Covid-19. An initial payment of £66 (£34 for under 30s and students) will be asked for, and any further payments will be adjusted according to the financial outlay required, for example to hire a professional orchestra.
