Sheldonian Theatre seating plan
Our concerts are mostly held in Christopher Wren’s magnificent Sheldonian Theatre, dating from 1669. This building is not a theatre in the usual sense, but is the ceremonial hall of the University. Its links to Oxford's illustrious musical history can be traced back to performances in 1733 by Handel, and today it is the city's main venue for large classical music concerts. Many audience members and musicians argue that there are few venues to rival it in terms of atmosphere and acoustic, but we would ask you to note the following points about seating arrangements. The only available seats with back rests are those in the Lower Gallery (codes FGHJ and KL) and the front and back rows (Rows A&F: code SCAJSCF) of the semicircle, and chairs (code CH) placed on the floor of the theatre, in front of the semicircle and adjacent to the performance area. Space for a wheelchair in the Sheldonian may be available, please request in advance.
