We hope very much that our audiences enjoy our concerts as much as we enjoy taking part. We aim to perform to the highest standard possible, and for that reason we think it important to engage only the best professional musicians and soloists.
However, it may come as a surprise to learn that for many of our performances, the orchestra and soloists alone cost well over £15,000… and that even with a full house we do not even cover their fees.
Choir members contribute significantly through annual subscriptions and by giving generous amounts of time administering the choir’s business and organising fundraising events. We also provide our own concert dress and cover the costs of our own music… but then there are the costs of hiring Oxford’s marvellous Sheldonian building, fees to be paid to our distinguished conductors, and posters and publicity to think about.
The choir is a registered charity and has not received any support from public funds for several years. Yet we are determined to continue our contribution to Oxford’s musical life and maintain, if not surpass, the standards we have reached after almost two centuries of existence.
How you can help…
If you would like to help preserve OBC’s independence and artistic freedom, we would be very grateful if you would consider making a donation to support our work. Please fill out our Donation Form and return it to us by post.
We acknowledge all donations in our concert programmes, unless instructed otherwise.
