For its first concert of the 2008/9 season, the choir will join forces with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra to perform Sancta Civitas and Five Mystical Songs by Vaughan Williams, Blest Pair of Sirens by Parry and Holst's Hymn of Jesus. The concert will be a double celebration to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Ralph Vaughan Williams and to celebrate the support which the Oxford Bach Choir has given to new music throughout its history. Not only did all three composers conduct the choir but the choir also gave several world premieres and early performances of their music, including the first performance of Sancta Civitas in the Sheldonian in May 1926.
